Some Gwinnett County students from Brookwood High recently earned the top national spot during the Wordmasters Challenge, a national language arts competition. The team of 9th graders placed first, outperforming hundreds of teams and thousands of students from across the country. The WordMasters Challenge is an exercise in critical thinking and literacy. Brookwood High’s 9th graders earned a score of 87 out of 110, the top score in the nation. In addition, the school’s 11th grade team tied for third place also at the national level, while the 12th grade team took sixth place. Approximately 542 school teams consisting of thousands of students participated in this school year’s first meet. Two other meets are scheduled for this school year. Brookwood High teacher Mary Britt supervises all three teams.
